What Can I Expect At My First Visit?
Our office does everything it can to make your first visit to Smilepoint Dental & Orthodontics as comfortable as possible. In our office, prior to your first visit, all background information, including your medical and dental history, will be taken. Your new visit will then also comprise –
Panoramic X-ray: This image provides a clear view of all the soft and hard tissue of your oral cavity. It only requires a minute to fill and has significantly minimized the dose rate of radiation to our patients.
Bitewing X-rays: To accompany the wide-angle X-ray, there is a cavity detection or bitewing X-ray that helps doctors see between the back teeth. This is one of the areas where most people experience cavities or tooth decay. The Bitewing X-rays are made up of two films, each on the side of the mouth.
Complete full-mouth charting: One of the most important prerequisites for examining and monitoring gum diseases and overall oral conditions is the assessment of “attachment loss”. We also want to be certain that your teeth have adequate support in the form of bone and tissue for proper oral and overall health. The dentist will take an impression of each tooth, and an assistant will note them down.
Comprehensive oral examination: The data collected will be reviewed by our dentist, and a thorough examination of oral hygiene will be performed to get the best understanding of your status. The dentist will then explain the results to you and check whether you need any more treatment before the next scaling. The dentist will also discuss your questions or worries.
Thorough dental cleaning: The dentist will complete the visit by scaling and polishing your teeth. If you have not been for a dental session, you may require a thorough cleaning to be done.
The dentist will determine this and discuss your options with you if more advanced work is required. Once the cleaning is done, we will schedule your next visit and have you on your way!
